The Real Truth: Are Ikwerre People Igbos Or Not?

THE REAL TRUTH: ARE IKWERRE PEOPLE IGBOS OR NOT? There has been an unending argument about the Ikwerre people of Rivers State being ‘runaway Igbos,’ and it is quite interesting to an observer, seeing the Igbos vehemently chasing after their so-called lost brothers while the Ikwerre folk keep running and hiding deeper into their mangrove forests. Imagine the debate: “You are my brother, whether you like it or not” versus “I am not your brother, whether you like or not.” Perhaps, an Igbo reader would frown at the word ‘chase’ because that would be condescending. I mean, why would they ‘chase’ after Ikwerre people? Who goes them ? But in actual sense, that is exactly what they do. How so? In an interview published by The Punch (12 th May 2024), a former Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Uche Okwukwu made a very strong statement that “…the Igbo will not surrender Ikwerre to anyone or tribe…. Any attempt to remove Ikwerre land from the Igbo will be resisted.” Indeed, they are chasing...

In a world where dreams collide with reality, there lies a path to greatness. In a time long before the digital age of 1986, where tech giants like Bill Gates reigned supreme, there was a figure whose legacy echoed through the annals of time. A figure whose selfless acts compelled even the mightiest deity to take notice. His unwavering resolve seemed to bend the very fabric of the universe to his will. That figure was none other than King Solomon. Ladies and gentlemen, in today's review we will be discussing the Things you should do if you want a better 2025. We will do this looking at the actions of King Solomon that helped him rise to greatness.  Solomon's wealth estimates at a staggering $2.1 trillion, a fortune that eclipses even the modern titans of wealth. He was adorned with riches beyond measure - gold, silver, gems, and lands stretching far and wide. Solomon's wealth surpassed the wildest dreams of mortal men. Elon Musk, a modern-day visionary, strives to...

Biafra; The Way Forward!

Image
PRELUDE   There’s a court case. A group of secessionists want a referendum. Everywhere is full, as the judge takes his seat. Outside the court, people are agitated and chanting, “We want Biafra! We want Biafra! Referendum now!” Judge settles down. So, who are the people asking for a new country? The Agitator-in-Chief rushes forward with a map. “Here, my lord, is the map.” The judge takes a look. “But I see my town there. I see Ekpeye Kingdom there, and we are not Biafrans! Agitator-in-Chief is agitated. “My lord, Ekpeye is Biafran land!” Judge looks at him. “Is it the land you are after or the people? Go and edit your map, and until then, no referendum.” Court! Pandemonium!  ******************************   THE REAL ISSUE  In 2017, I shared a cab with two Igbo passengers in Port Harcourt while I was headed to a park for Ibadan, and Nnamdi Kanu was on the radio, saying a lot of things that made me feel uneasy. The boys a...

How to Make Delicious Yam Porridge  Yam is one of the foods that is richlypackedwithcarbohydrates. Yam could be eaten in different ways. It could be fried, roasted, and could be made into yam flour for fufu. It could also be steamed and eating with sauce etc.  My favourite part is when it made as porridge yam. Little things to do to help your boy child grow into a responsible husband.

Little things to do to help your boy child grow into a responsible husband.  Omenelic blogspot - 30th May, 2024 We can all contribute to build a better society by doing little things from our individual families. Before we delve into the main discussion, let's read the story of Kevin and Katie.               Katie and Kevin's  It was beautiful sunny afternoon, Katie was returning from work placement and decided to stop by Woolwich Lidl to get few items.  From the car park, Katie walked into the shop. She first picked some fruits and headed to pick up some loaves of bread. Just as she walked down to the bakery aisle of Lidl, she noticed a man following her. Katie picked two loaves and headed for milk. The man was still following her and looking at her pleasantly.  Kevin was so carried away by Katie's beauty that he couldn't help but stare lustfully at her. "Hey, I'm Kevin, what's your name?" "I'm Katie".  Here begins th...

How to Help Your Child Speak Your Language Without Stress

Image
We are living in a world that looks like we're in one village! Thanks to Internet.  Also, we are living in a world that parents are too busy to have time for their children. Not only are people busy with work, but busy with phones, laptops, tablets, ipads etc the almighty digital world! As a result, people have less or no time for children, talk less of taking time to teach their children their mother tongues.  I am not ruling out the fact that there are still persistent parents who ensure that their children speak their language no matter where they reside. However, majority of parents don't border teaching their children to learn their languages.  Some try from beginning but end up not achieving the end results. This could be as a result of working most of the times and getting tired to teach the children their languages, or being carried away by the children's way of communicating with them.  For instance, a child that the parent speaks his/her language t...
